The Superstar Detail II
A blast from the past returns in an updated form
Sonia G. is the inspirational brush entrepreneur who helped me realize that chasing my brush line dreams is more than okay. Her brand also became my gateway into the world of fude collecting. While my expertise has mostly been with synthetic brushes, she was my very first teacher in the realm of fude. She welcomed all of us into her brush-making journey and guided us step by step. She educated us on bristle types, materials, and even introduced us to the OEMs working tirelessly to handcraft each brush. None are exactly the same. Each brush holds individuality, creativity and a story of its own. In addition, she is always offering us opportunities to own a piece of her individual treasures. And now, she has given us yet another to call our own. Enter the new series: The Superstars. This review is #NotSponsored.
I need to emphasize how this series is especially interesting to me because it features brushes that originated as prototypes. Prototypes hit close to home for me, as I have a collection of my own. Prototypes, even the failed ones, are reminders that you are one step closer to accomplishing your goals. I knew I would instantly form an emotional connection to this release because of this. Additionally, these brushes are also based off of consumer requests and discontinued designs. Very interesting.
On November 27th, Beautylish had their first release, Superstar Detail Two. Naturally, I purchased it the moment it launched. Like I mentioned earlier, I am emotionally invested in this series. It sold out in about twenty minutes. The insanity! I would say I am surprised but that would be a total fib. Don’t worry, there will be a restock! Beautylish’s shipping is incredibly fast, so I’ve been able to test this brush since Saturday night.
This brush features grey squirrel bristles that are just as soft as you would expect. Personally, I love to use squirrel bristles all over the face in the winter when my skin is the driest. Each bristle gently caresses your skin as you drag and swirl the brush over it with powder. The brush head’s full and poofy domed shape adds to the effectiveness of your product application. It allows the brush to deposit powder under the eyes like a dream! And how I love using it to set my T-zone with loose powder. Though, I use this brush with setting powder above else, it does have versatility. I’m talking about using it with blush, highlighter, and adding just a touch of bronzer. In case you aren’t aware, squirrel bristles shouldn’t be used with creams, liquids, or viscous products so keep that in mind.
When I first saw photos of Detail Two, I mistakenly assumed that its blue hue was the same paint from the SKY Series; however, I discovered that this spectacular blue is actually the same shade used in the Summer Koi handles. Sonia herself has confirmed this. This blue is intense! And this sounds hilarious, but I have to assume most of you have seen the movie Titanic? Well, this blue reminds me of the Blue Heart of the Ocean necklace featured in that film. Plus, blue sapphire is my birthstone, so this fact only adds onto the emotional connection I have to this collection. I love how customized the handle is. The thickness, the length (105 mm), the logo and symbol at the bottom of the handle. Simply exquisite and chic! The high-shine lacquer that protects the black to blue gradient is the perfect finishing touch to this limited edition piece. Remember, I only started testing this brush on Saturday, so I will continue evaluating its functionality and capabilities to keep all of you updated.

What a beautiful collection! Sonia G brushes are workers and works of art. This is a welcoming read for me because I learned something about fude. I need to gain some knowledge about the specific shapes and which types of hair work with which products. I can’t wait for your further thoughts. Xo💕
Lovely writeup! I have to wait for the restock and I will likely get as many as I can afford in the series. In the meanwhile I have her mini essentials set to try out and all the other brushes I've gotten recently. One set I purchased I have to admit is sentimental, the Wayne Goss' collectors edition eye set. Not that I doubt they will be perfectly good brushes but my instinct was to get them as he leaves brushes behind because he was my introduction to Fude style brushes. And of course there are the Rephyr brushes. Plenty to keep busy!
