My Current Haircare Obsessions and Why They Work
Lately, I have found myself surrounded by blistering heat, dense humidity, and storm-heavy skies. Between baby flyaways refusing to cooperate and loose strands turning increasingly unruly in moisture-heavy air, these have become my trusted hair products for travel days, professional environments, and wildly unpredictable weather alike.
Temperatures climbing well beyond 90 degrees and blistering heat have not been particularly kind to my hair. Even professional environments with aggressively cold air conditioning can become equally problematic, leaving my fine strands feeling overly dry and stressed beneath constant recycled air. Oribe’s Invisible Defense Universal Protection Spray has become one of the few products capable of handling both extremes. The formula gives my hair an almost shielded sensation, providing heat protection and moisture while leaving behind the dryness or stiffness that many protective sprays tend to create. I am admittedly an Oribe fanatic, and it is quite rare for me to dislike anything the brand produces, but this spray easily ranks among my top favorites. It keeps my frizz under control in humidity remarkably well, which, as many of you probably know by now, is no small accomplishment.
If you are currently searching for a heat protectant, this is one I would strongly recommend considering. The formula offers heat protection up to 450°F while still allowing the hair to feel soft, touchable, and lightweight throughout wear.
And then there is the fragrance. Oribe’s signature Côte d’Azur scent carries notes of Calabrian bergamot, sandalwood, and white butterfly jasmine. In heat, the fragrance develops into something airy, clean, and incredibly fresh without becoming overpowering. It smells divine!
I have thin, sleek, and exceptionally fine hair, which means even ordinary daily activities, running up flights of stairs, spending hours moving between meetings, or sitting through lengthy product development discussions, can quickly leave my hair looking flat and disheveled.
Kérastase’s Glaze Drops have been one of the few products capable of bringing that softness and shine back into my hair without weighing it down. The formula leaves my strands noticeably smoother, easier to manage, and coated in a reflective finish that almost resembles glass beneath direct light. What I especially appreciate is how little product is actually required. Depending on my hair length, one to three drops is more than enough to create that sleek, polished shine throughout the day. That said, restraint is important here. Remember, this product is an oil and applying too much can very quickly push the finish into greasy territory.
The fragrance deserves recognition as well. Compared to Oribe’s Côte d’Azur scent, this one carries a more pronounced floral presence. It is definitely noticeable, though not overwhelmingly so, and lingers softly throughout the hair during wear.
What exactly is a moisturizing shampoo, and why would someone even need one? In simplest terms, moisturizing shampoos are designed to replenish hydration lost through heat styling, environmental stressors, cleansing agents, and general dryness, all while helping the hair maintain softness, flexibility, and manageability.
Oribe’s Eternal Curls Shampoo has become one of my personal favorites because it performs exactly as promised. The formula restores much-needed moisture, helps retain hydration within the hair itself, and noticeably enhances the longevity and definition of my curls.
Any time I know I will be styling my hair in curls, this is the shampoo I intentionally reach for in the shower. I especially love the texture of the formula itself. The lather feels dense, creamy, and almost indulgent, turning the entire washing process into something that feels far more luxurious than an ordinary hair routine. We are talking richness, opulence, and full-scale decadence for the hair.
Interestingly enough, despite the shampoo being marketed toward medium and thicker hair types, I experience very few issues using it on my remarkably fine strands. After prolonged use, however, my hair can begin looking flatter and noticeably oilier than usual, so I prefer rotating it into my routine more selectively. I typically curl my hair every other day, and this is almost always the shampoo I use beforehand. My curls consistently appear more nourished, maintain their shape longer, and feel noticeably softer throughout wear. At times, the results almost feel suspiciously good. It’s total magic!✨
I don’t mean to continuously repeat myself, but as I mentioned earlier, I have remarkably fine and naturally sleek hair. It’s a serious problem for me. No matter what I do, my roots tend to collapse rather quickly, and because my strands are so delicate, they knot with frustrating ease throughout the day. Vegamour’s Uplift Volumizing Styling Foam has been one of the few products capable of giving my hair that lifted, salon-style fullness without making it feel stiff or overloaded with product. Whenever I am yearning for that unmistakable “Texas-style” volume, this is almost always the bottle sitting on my modular vanity area.
I especially enjoy pairing it alongside Oribe’s Eternal Curls Shampoo since I typically use both products on the days I plan to curl my hair. The foam behaves almost like a hybrid between a mousse and a volumizer, giving the hair body, softness, and hold simultaneously without leaving behind the overly crunchy texture many volumizing products tend to create. This product also offers thermal protection up to 291°F and contains ingredients such as arrowroot to encourage fullness, rice protein to enhance manageability, and Sophora root, which is often associated with supporting fuller-looking hair at the root area.
Vegamour feels like one of those arcane brands with several star-worthy products that somehow remain overlooked. And yet, this fantastic brand continues to exist without the level of admiration it has clearly earned.
Lastly, my most cherished Japanese artisan brushmaker, Bisyodo, offers two hair brushes whose craftsmanship and performance I find especially worthy of discussion and recommendation. My personal favorite remains the full-sized HB-01, a meticulously constructed brush composed of a bristle blend containing 55% boar hair and 45% black pig hair. The combination creates a fascinating balance between firmness and flexibility, allowing the brush to maintain structure while still moving fluidly throughout the hair. Bisyodo states that natural bristles help suppress static electricity, and based on my own experience, I am fully inclined to believe them. I have used both the HB-01 and its smaller counterpart, the HB-02, through that dense humidity, electrically charged storms, and relentless rainfall, and they continue to perform with impressive consistency. These brushes have become permanent fixtures within my haircare routine because of how noticeably smooth, controlled, and glossy my hair appears after each use.
What continues to fascinate me most is the interaction between the bristles and the hair itself. Rather than harshly pulling or snagging, the bristles seem to gather and distribute the hair’s natural oils throughout the strands, leaving behind a softer and noticeably more sharp appearance. The sensation is difficult to explain unless experienced firsthand, because one can physically feel the brush working through the hair in a completely different manner than synthetic alternatives.
I shower multiple times throughout the day, especially during hotter months, and the HB-01 has become part of my nightly routine. By morning, my hair appears fuller at the roots, more lifted throughout the lengths, and considerably more voluminous despite the absence of styling products.
The handles themselves deserve equal recognition. Both brushes are crafted from solid African rosewood, also known as Bubinga, a remarkably dense hardwood admired for its durability, resistance to damage, and rich coloration. Harder than red oak, Bubinga carries dramatic dark veining throughout the grain that gives each handle an almost architectural elegance. The material has been utilized in everything from luxury furniture and cabinetry to high-end guitars and decorative woodworking applications, making its inclusion within hair brush craftsmanship feel especially distinctive. Another detail I find particularly fascinating is Bubinga’s natural resistance to termites, which further reinforces the durability and longevity associated with the material itself.
Every aspect of these brushes feels thoughtfully considered, from the material selection to the tactile experience of the bristles against the hair.
Bisyodo continues to impress me not only through product performance, but through craftsmanship that feels increasingly rare within modern beauty spaces. They remain one of the very few PR relationships I have accepted simply because of how strongly I believe in both the artistry and the integrity behind the brand.
By the way, if any of you are interested in a smaller version of this splendidly crafted brush, I highly recommend the HB-02. Its compact size makes it incredibly useful for styling more difficult sections of the hair, particularly around tighter areas where larger brushes can become slightly cumbersome.
Oh, and its compact size also makes it wonderfully convenient for travel.
At the end of the day, beautifully styled hair means very little to me if the products cannot withstand real environments, relentless humidity, scorching temperatures, long workdays, and the unpredictability of everyday life itself. These are the products that continue proving themselves to me repeatedly, not only through aesthetics, but through performance, consistency, and thoughtful craftsmanship. Quite honestly, there is always something deeply satisfying about discovering products that make difficult hair days feel far less difficult. And in weather conditions like these, that alone feels worthy of celebration.
If any of you have favorite humidity-resistant hair products, please send them my way. I am always looking for another excuse to expand my collection.
