Chantecaille’s Lip Crème
Short testing. Instant review.
Since I’m not someone controlled by PR, I will always tell you the truth. Skip the Chantecaille Lip Crèmes and choose m.ph’s Lip Ciggys instead. I am not against PR at all. I am simply selective. I only accept affiliate codes or PR from brands I genuinely stand by. If a brand reaches out and wants me to test their products but I am not familiar with their formulas, I decline unless they allow me to try the products with no obligation to review them. I have to truly support a brand and what they bring us before I ever announce a collab or accept PR. I see a lot of creators pushing Chantecaille, and yes, I adore their skincare and several of their makeup items. Their skincare is especially a gimmie! Gimmie! It’s true that they do have beautiful formulas. But I have a very hard time promoting products that do not perform. Especially when they have a high-end price tag. During their latest sale, I purchased two of their Lip Crèmes, and when I tell you I dislike this product, I mean it. I usually test products for well over a month, giving them time and multiple chances, but this one needed no such grace period. It is one of the weakest formulas I have tried.
It has the strangest texture. It is too slippy, with a slight balmy feel but not in a pleasant or nourishing way. It’s just annoying. Even though they state on their website that this product is full-coverage, I have to disagree. Hard. It lacks pigmentation to the point where it almost immediately looks like worn down lipstick after five to ten minutes of wear. If I build it up, it gets messy, and the part that frustrates me most is how easily it smears. It transfers so fast that it smudges onto my teeth, even after pressing my lips together three or four times! It starts off looking decent, then fades almost right away. On my lips, it just performs poorly. It sinks into my lines and feathers even if I don’t skip a lip liner. For me, it is too basic and the price tag does not match the product.
Many of you already know how infatuated I am with m.ph’s line. I am especially an ardent fan of her Lip Ciggys. These have a true balmy feel, but the experience is entirely different. The texture is thicker and feels soothing, nourishing, and long lasting. I always use a three step method with the Ciggys. Even though I don’t have to. First, I line my lips, then I apply the Ciggy, and finish with a gloss. When I tell you this trifecta holds up and feels incredible on the lips, I mean every word. I never expected to love a lip product this much. My Lip Ciggys travel with me everywhere, whether it is for business, shopping trips, lunch or dinner gatherings, or simple errands like picking up my work packages. They never leave my bag.
Both Chantecaille’s and m.ph’s lip products share a lipstick balm quality, even though Chantecaille describes their Lip Crème as having a glossy cream finish. I can see the gloss, but the claims about it being hydrating and offering precise application through its shape are not something I personally agree with.
If I were to recommend a lip product that is worth your money, I would tell you to go with m.ph without hesitation. M.ph’s Lip Ciggys contain point .9 of product for $26, while Chantecaille’s Lip Crèmes contain 3 grams for $55. But what is the point of having more product if the formula itself does not perform? Quantity means nothing when the quality collapses. And to make matters worse, the price tag attached to that disappointing formula feels almost insulting. Will I still recommend Chantecaille as a brand? Oh, absolutely! They have products I consider staples and those will always have a place in my collection. But this specific launch is not it. You cannot win them all, and this Lip Crème is a clear miss.
If a lip formula cannot hold its own on the lips, the company has no business charging a luxury price. M.ph earned my praise. This Lip Crème earned a reminder that even prestige brands can miss the mark. Have any of you tried these products? If so, do you agree or disagree with me? Share your thoughts in the comments! good to know!! i'm suspect about chantecaille in general, ever since putting its blush on my wishlist just to find reviews complaining it has no pigmentation. For $44, you have to bring your best game!
thanks for your m.ph recommendation! I read some of the coverage when m.ph opened. but haven't looked much further into it.
I bought a Lip Crème, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I'll let you know if I have a similar experience.
